Oh boy do we have a treat for you on Saturday evening! In the second installment of our popular Dance Through the Decades series, we bring you the oh-so-danceable sounds of Petra van Nuis' Recession Seven. This band is littered with A-list Chicago jazz musicians, and they will be filling Studio5 with music directly from the 1930s.
Of course, if you attended our 1930s dance class on Sunday you now have a leg up on everyone else. Just be careful not to pull a hammy. But it doesn't matter if you missed the dance class: Once the band hits the downbeat everyone is invited up on the Studio5 dance floor! Remember the 1930s? Economic turmoil, racial tension, civil unrest in Spain, nations teetering on the brink of another World War ... wait, that was last week. No, no, that WAS the 1930s. Well, AND last week. Anyway, in the 1930s, people just like us found relief and release through social dancing, and we aim to do the same thing at Studio5. Let's go! Come dance to the great sounds of a great era. Or just come to listen to the music and enjoy the company of friends. Oh, and thank goodness Prohibition was repealed in 1933 because we have a bar. That should come in handy.
Cash bar, light snacks, free parking right outside! Doors open at 7:30.
