Two good friends, two great singers, lots of fun! If you were a Whiskey Lounge patron you will recall nights of incredible music provided – separately – by Paul Marinaro and Alyssa Allgood. We always so looked forward to their performances. Alyssa has been recognized by Downbeat Magazine as an artist who “impressively sings, scats and writes original lyrics”. She was recently named a Top 15 Finalist in the 2016 Sarah Vaughan International Jazz Vocal Competition and a 2016 Jazz Fellow through the Luminarts Cultural Organization in Chicago. Her debut album, "Out of the Blue", was named a “Best Release of 2016” by The Huffington Post, All About Jazz, Jazz History Online, The L.A. Jazz Scene and a “Best Debut Release of 2016” by The New York City Jazz Record. Not bad for an artist just a few years out of college. Paul Marinaro was dubbed as having "one of the most beautiful vocal instruments in the business today" by Howard Reich of the Chicago Tribune. He is a modern classic, from the mold of Sinatra, Bennett and Torme, and regularly fills houses all over Chicago. Paul has released two critically acclaimed recordings and his recent jam-packed performance at New York’s famed “Birdland” demonstrated that his reach is far beyond the Windy City.
Besides being consummate musicians, Alyssa and Paul are charming, wonderfully entertaining performers, and it is to our great benefit that they are also good friends. It’s going to be such fun having them onstage at Studio5 together! Click HERE to watch Alyssa sitting in with Paul recently at the Green Mill. By the way, rounding out the ensemble are organist, Dan Chase, guitarist Mike Allemana and drummer, Mikel Avery. It’s the A-Team, ladies and gentlemen, and we’re going to have a blast. We’ll be recording this performance for Chicago Jazz Live on WDCB, so come be part of the the studio audience. –SR
