Friends and fans of the incomparable singer Paul Marinaro are aware of the health challenges he’s faced this year. A series of hospitalizations and surgeries have kept him from performing regularly since last December. As much as we’ve keenly felt Paul’s absence onstage, no one has missed his appearances more than Paul himself. He lives to sing and loves to perform, and I know this has been an extremely frustrating stretch for him. Paul had his final surgical procedure in early June and has spent the past weeks convalescing. He is now healthy and raring to go, and believe me, he intends to put the whole thing in the rearview mirror and step on the gas. Won’t it be fun to be along for the ride? We are so excited that Paul’s very first appearance back will be at Studio5 on July 19th, as we celebrate his return to health, his return to the stage … and his birthday! What a joyous night this is going to be! Paul will be backed by an absolutely monstrous quartet, or as he told me, “The vocalist better be good with a band like that.” Do any of us have any doubt? By the way, if you miss Paul’s show at Studio5, three days later he will be performing at one of the most famous jazz clubs in the world, New York City’s legendary “Birdland”. Yes, that Birdland. But then you’d have to factor in hotel and airfare … plus, WE have free parking. In fact, I think that may be our new motto: “Studio5: Kinda like Birdland, but with free parking.” Catchy.

Come join us for a grand celebration, won’t you?

We'll be recording this performance for Chicago Jazz Live on WDCB, so you'll be part of the studio audience! See you there! -SR
