Sarah Marie Young has appeared at Studio5 several times, and each performance has been so artful and soulful that the audience has hung onto every note. She not only is an exquisite performer, she puts so much thought into her presentation that audience members feel as if they’ve been given a valuable gift … and in fact, they have. Sarah recently told me about a new group she’s formed with two other talented women, Allison Orobia and Leslie Beukelman, called The Oh Yeahs. The three women come from diverse folk/soul/jazz backgrounds, with a common language of vocal harmony. Believing that anything Sarah is involved with would be worth hearing, I am eager to welcome them to Studio5. Just to be clear, Sarah is a serious jazz singer, but this trio is not strictly a jazz group … however, you know the influences won’t be far away. What I know is this: All three women have beautiful voices, and they ALL play instruments. Performing a combination of original songs and covers, the group promises an evening filled with great tunes and fun times. Buckle up, y’all. The Oh Yeahs are here.
